Check your mobile SEO

Mobile SEO is a big deal. It’s important to keep your website mobile-optimized, because if you can’t see something on a phone, chances are no one else will be able to either. That doesn’t mean that desktop optimization isn’t important; it just means that the two are different things and need separate strategies.

Here are some tips for keeping your site mobile-friendly:

  • Make sure all links work across devices and browsers without clicking through manually or using an app like Chrome Experiments (which requires users to opt-in). If you have too many redirects on your page—or any other kind of link—you may lose credibility with users who don’t want their time wasted clicking through multiple pages before they find what they’re looking for. This can also cause issues with SEO because Google will penalize sites with lots of redirects as being less user friendly than others in their ranking algorithm (see this article from Search Engine Land).
  • If possible, use responsive design so that content adjusts based on screen size rather than having fixed widths throughout all devices; this helps keep things looking great across different resolutions since most people aren’t going back later after downloading something onto their phones just because it looks better now!

Do not use meta descriptions that are too long.

Meta descriptions are used to help search engines understand what a page is about. They should be between 75 and 150 characters, and they should be relevant to the content on the page. For example, if you’re writing an article about dogs and cats, your meta description should mention both animals (like “How to train your dog”) and how-to information (like “How to make sure your cat doesn’t get sick”).

If you have an image-based site like [www], you can use this as well! Just remember that it should match up with what’s written in the text; if there’s no image available for whatever reason (like when I didn’t upload one), just write something similar but not exactly like it—for example:

Make sure your sitemap is up to date.

One of the most important things you can do to maintain your site’s SEO is keep your sitemap up-to-date. A sitemap is a list of all the pages on your website, including their titles and URLs. You use this when searching engines like Google decide which pages they want to show in their results pages (known as “organic” search results).

To make sure that you’re keeping up with this task, we recommend using tools like Google Search Console (GSC) or Yoast SEO because both will alert you if there are any problems with the structure of one or more pages on your site.

Optimize for search engines.

  • Use keywords in your content.
  • Use keywords in your meta description.
  • Use keywords in your title tags, H1 tags and H2 tags.
  • Use keywords in the URL of your website so that it can be found by search engines like Google when they rank pages based on their results (this is known as “link building”).
  • Include a header tag with a snippet of text that includes one or more relevant keyword phrases such as “SEO tips for beginners” or “SEO for beginners: How to optimize for search engines”. You can also use this space at the end of each page if you have more than one level navigation contained within it (the navigation bar).

Link your social media platforms.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure that your website is SEO-friendly is to link it on social media platforms.

  • Link your social media accounts and pages
  • Link your blog
  • Link your email address and phone number

Test your website for vulnerabilities.

Once you have a working website, it’s time to start testing your site for vulnerabilities. This is a process that every website owner should perform regularly, but unfortunately many don’t do so.

Here are some of the most common areas that can be tested:

  • Broken links – Make sure all internal pages are linked together properly and have no broken links in them. If there are any broken links on your website, you’ll want to fix them as soon as possible before Google penalizes your site for having them!
  • 404 pages – 404 means ‘page not found’. This can happen when someone clicks on an external link from another page or if they search for something within the body text of one of those external links (for example: “car” would be part of an internal page called “car”). If a user gets sent straight back into Facebook after clicking through from one page on your blog/website then this could mean that there’s something wrong with how those two pages were coded together—and fixing it may require updating both pages!

Control how Google indexes your site

Google has a number of different ways to index your site. They all work together to provide the best results for users and search engines alike.

Google will index your site the way it thinks is best, based on its data about how people use search engines, how they interact with websites in general, what kind of content appears on those sites (and whether that content is relevant), and so on.

They also use algorithms that take into account what you want them to do when ranking sites—for example: if you have an affiliate program where people pay for products or services from other websites through links back here at yours; or if there’s something else important happening around them like an announcement about new products being released soon or upcoming events happening nearby which would benefit anyone interested in attending either one!

No Duplicate content

Duplicate content is a major issue for search engines, and it can affect your site’s ranking.

  • You should try to avoid having duplicate pages on your site. If a page has been edited and published before in its current form, you should not add new information that is substantially different from the original version of the page (for example, if you had an article about how to use Google Analytics in 2008, but now have a new one about using Google Analytics 2015).

Robots.txt

Robots.txt is a text file that tells search engine crawlers where to find specific webpages on your site. It’s not a replacement for sitemap.xml, which tells Google, Bing and other search engines how to index your site’s pages.

Robots.txt only applies to robots—not humans! To use robots .txt files effectively as a part of SEO strategy for mobile apps:

  • Make sure you’re using HTTPS (HTTP over SSL) connections instead of HTTP connections when loading content from external sources like Google or Amazon Web Services into your app; otherwise the data will not be encrypted and could be intercepted by hackers trying to steal user information through man-in-the-middle attacks.* Use structured data in JSON format so that search engines can understand what type of content is being served up by using this metadata tag within each page on the page hierarchy as well as within individual HTML tags themselves!

Migrating a page or a site

Migrating a page or a site is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your website’s SEO.

  • Make a plan: You need to know what will happen if something goes wrong, and how far back in time you want to migrate your content.
  • Have a backup plan: It’s always better to take this step way ahead of time so that when something goes wrong, you don’t have much trouble getting everything up on new platforms.
  • Test! Before moving anything live, run tests on different versions of pages (or even just copy/pasting text) and compare results from each version before moving forward with any major changes in either direction – especially if there aren’t many users checking out those pages yet (which happens quite often).

Help Google understand your site

  • Use keywords in the title.
  • Use keywords in the meta description.
  • Use keywords in the content.
  • Use keywords in URLs and image alt text, as well as titles of posts, page headers and footers, etc., all throughout your site!

Make your links crawlable

The first step to making sure your website’s SEO is effective is to make sure that the links on it are crawlable. This means they can be accessed by search engines, so they’ll appear when people search for things related to what you do or sell.

There are several ways in which you can make sure your links are crawlable:

  • Make sure they aren’t broken or 404’d (not found). Broken links are an impediment if someone wants to find out more about something specific, but all too common with websites that don’t update their content regularly as well as those that have been abandoned by their owners/hosts over time. To prevent this from happening, make sure any dead end pages have 404 errors instead of simply disappearing completely from the internet forever like a ghost town after its inhabitants moved away due to economic conditions being worse than expected during its inception years ago now thirty years later…

Multi-page blogs/Article

  • Use a clear and consistent navigation structure.
  • Use a consistent header image.
  • Use a consistent footer image.
  • Use the same background color for all pages on your site, including those in the main content area, blogrolls and search engine optimization (SEO) subpages. You can use different colors for different parts of your site if you want to make it visually appealing—but keep in mind that this will affect how users interpret what they see on each page of your site when they’re looking at it from their browser window! For example: if you have an orange background color everywhere except over where there’s white text with black letters (like this), people won’t be able to read what’s going on very well since we cannot distinguish between colors as well as we could if there were more contrast between them; therefore it may cause confusion among visitors who visit your website regularly which would lead them away from buying something or making another purchase soon after visiting again later down line.”

Control your search appearance

  • Make sure your site is easy to navigate.
  • Make sure your site is easy to find.
  • Make sure your site is easy to read.
  • Make sure your site is easy to find and use.

Content-specific guidelines

If you have specific types of content on your site, here are some recommendations for getting them on Google in the best way:
Video: Be sure to follow our video best practices to enable Google to find, crawl, and show results for videos hosted on your site.

Podcasting Guideline: You can expose podcasts to Google by following these guidelines.

Images Guideline: Follow our image best practices to get your images to appear in Search. You can show additional information about your image in Google Images by providing image metadata on the image host page. To block an image from being indexed, use a robots.txt Disallow rule.

Adult sites Guideline If your site (or specific pages) contain adult-only content, you might consider tagging it as adult content, which will filter it in SafeSearch results.
